Online Notarization in Michigan with Secured Signing

When it comes to notarizing important documents, finding a commissioned notary public was once a time-consuming task that often required scheduling in advance. However, with Secured Signing’s Remote Online Notarization (RON) platform, the process is now easier and more convenient than ever, allowing you to notarize documents from the comfort of your home.

On June 26, 2018, Michigan passed House Bill 5811, allowing state notaries to remotely notarize electronic documents starting September 26, 2018. The Michigan Law on Notarial Acts requires the Department of State to approve vendors for these services. Secured Signing is one of the approved vendors, ensuring a trusted platform for electronic notarization.

How Does Online Notarization Work in Michigan?

To use a remote online notary in Michigan, there are a few essential requirements to ensure your notarization is valid and secure.

RON transactions in Michigan are conducted entirely online, enabling signers and state-commissioned notaries to meet via audio-visual technology. Unlike traditional notarization, where signers must be physically present before a notary, RON allows the entire process to be completed remotely. During the online meeting, signers’ identities are verified using a knowledge-based authentication system and analysis, helping to prevent fraud.

One of the major advantages of online notarization is the ability to complete the process within minutes, without requiring the signers to be in the same room—or even in the same state.

In addition to identity verification, the entire notarization session is recorded and stored. Michigan law mandates that this record be securely stored and accessible to all parties involved for a minimum of ten years. This comprehensive record ensures that if any disputes arise, all the necessary information is available for review.

Finally, the digital seal and certificate provided by the Michigan remote online notary ensure that the signed document is sealed with a tamper-proof code. This code tracks and identifies any unauthorized changes to the document, allowing for quick resolution of disputes.

With Secured Signing’s RON platform, you can confidently notarize your documents knowing that the process is secure, efficient, and fully compliant with Michigan state regulations.
