LawHawk’s Success with Secured Signing

Legal Processes with Secured Signing:
A Conversation with
LawHawk’s Gene Turner

In a recent insightful conversation, Lianca Van Oudtshoorn, Content Marketing Manager at Secured Signing, spoke with Gene Turner from LawHawk about his experiences using Secured Signing’s digital signature platform and the tangible benefits it brings to his clients. Gene, a key figure in helping law firms optimize their workflows through automation, shared valuable insights into why Secured Signing has become a go-to solution for LawHawk and their legal professional clientele.

This blog delves into the key takeaways from their discussion, highlighting the features that set Secured Signing apart and the real-world impact it has on legal practices.

A Meeting of Minds and Shared Innovation

LawHawk first connected with Secured Signing back in 2017 at a conference where Gene met founder Mike Eyal. Their booths were side by side, which led to a deeper understanding of each other’s work. For Gene, the standout feature from the beginning was Secured Signing’s smart tag functionality.

This chance encounter sparked a conversation that revealed a natural synergy between LawHawk’s document automation expertise and Secured Signing’s digital signature capabilities, particularly the innovative smart tag functionality.

Why Secured Signing? Functionality, Flexibility, and Local Support

Gene noted that while Secured Signing was the first e-signing solution they explored deeply, it quickly became clear that it offered greater functionality than many competitors.

When asked what initially attracted LawHawk to Secured Signing, Gene emphasized the smart tag functionality. This feature allows for the automatic insertion of signing tags into document templates during the assembly process.

Beyond the initial appeal of smart tags, Gene highlighted several other factors that solidified Secured Signing as the preferred platform:

  • Handling of Large Files: Secured Signing’s ability to manage larger file sizes proved particularly beneficial for clients dealing with extensive construction project documentation.
  • Attractive Pricing: Compared to other solutions, Secured Signing offered a compelling price point.
  • Valuable Local Support: Being able to directly contact and collaborate with senior personnel at Secured Signing in New Zealand proved invaluable, especially when pushing the boundaries of the platform’s capabilities. This level of support is often missing with larger, overseas-based companies.
  • Seamless Workflow for Complex Transactions: Secured Signing’s functionality facilitates a smoother signing process, even for intricate transactions involving numerous documents.

“It’s not always easy to get someone on the phone with the larger international platforms. With Secured Signing, we can talk to senior people and solve challenges quickly,” said Gene.

An Easy Onboarding Experience for Law Firms

Ease of use is crucial in the legal field, where time is precious. LawHawk found the platform straightforward to set up, and it was just as easy to train their clients.

“Even if you’re not tech-savvy, getting started is quick. And if clients need custom setups, we can walk them through it without hassle,” Gene noted.

This simplicity, combined with the local relationship and reliability, made it a clear choice for legal professionals in New Zealand.

What Clients Say: Reliability Is Key

Since referring Secured Signing to other firms, LawHawk has consistently received positive feedback. While issues can happen with any platform, Gene highlighted that the silence often speaks volumes: “You tend to hear more when things go wrong. But with Secured Signing, clients just keep using it. It works, and that’s the point.”

One of the core values of a digital signing solution is dependability—especially during high-stakes transactions. “It has to work every time. When it does, it becomes a natural part of your workflow.”

Real-World Use Cases

Gene shared two impactful examples of how clients use Secured Signing to simplify complex processes:

1. Business Brokerage

A brokerage firm uses the platform for every new listing, which often involves multiple parties like shareholders or trusts. The smart tag system allows them to generate ready-to-sign documents in minutes.

“All the parties are included, even if some are trustees or directors. Secured Signing’s workflow handles the reminders and completion automatically saving a ton of time.”

2. Retirement Village Employment Contracts

Another client needed to onboard 315 new employees, each with multiple role-specific documents. LawHawk used automation to generate everything with smart tags, and Secured Signing managed the mass signing process seamlessly.

“Trying to manage that manually would have been horrendous. This took what could’ve been a logistical nightmare and made it seamless.”

Addressing Common Challenges in Legal Digital Signing

Lianca and Gene also discussed two main challenges that law firms face were identified:

  • Complex transactions involving third-party clients
  • Clients lacking digital literacy or being in different locations

Gene believes Secured Signing’s video signing functionality helps solve both. It allows for remote signing meetings that feel in-person, giving confidence to all parties and reducing the risk of canceled or delayed signings.

“This is especially helpful when dealing with older clients or those unfamiliar with digital tools. The added assurance also mitigates risks of fraud”

The Future of Digital and Video Signing in Law

Digital signatures have matured since 2017. Gene observed a shift from uncertainty to broad acceptance: “These days, no one questions if digital signing is legal. They just expect it.”

He sees video signing as the next wave – offering enhanced security, identity verification, and ease. Gene hopes this increased confidence will lead to the relaxation of restrictions on electronically signing certain critical documents, such as enduring powers of attorney, making these processes more accessible and efficient while maintaining security and validity.

“It reduces costs, speeds up processes, and makes critical documentation easier to manage. That’s where the industry is heading.”

A Valuable Partnership for Legal Innovation

Lianca concluded the conversation by expressing her appreciation for Gene’s insightful answers and highlighting the value LawHawk brings to the legal industry in optimizing document signing processes. She encouraged readers to reach out to LawHawk for assistance in streamlining their legal workflows.
